Hamilton Carnival

After loosing our founder Kenneth Ling in 2007 to cancer and the devastating weather condition in 2008, the popular Hamilton carnival is back with a better and greater focus on our Multi-cultural festival.

This new beginning has given us greater awareness of the other cultures that live among us; we feel that it is necessary to strongly embrace the diversity, which come as a result of living in a multi-ethnic community.

Since then, it has been growing steadily, and attracts tens of thousands of spectators and masqueraders annually.  In fact, for most Caribana bands, Hamilton Mardi Gras has become a regular “next stop” on their agenda, as the carnival usually falls on the weekend after Caribana.

This year, a much-weakened Ling, with the assistance of his family, still managed to pull off a successful event, with some 60,000 people attending.  He made a brief appearance on a wheelchair.

His family has said the event will go on annually in his memory.

Kenneth Ling leaves to mourn his wife Bernadette and children Kimberly, Roger, Kenneth Jr. and Kennyarta, as well as grandchildren Jaden, Jordan and Isaiah. – The Caribbean Camera
